The season of giving is upon us, which means your flush bank account will be quickly depleted as you purchase holiday gifts for loved ones, family members, and even co-workers.
As a successful businessperson, you know the model of holiday shopping is simply not sustainable. Belts need to be tightened, taps turned off, and dollars stretched.
Obviously, you can’t pinch pennies on family members and loved ones – you’ll never hear the end of it. Ten, fifteen, twenty years from now your parents, significant other, or child will continue to remind you about that ONE time you scrimped on their holiday gift – even if you subsequently bought them a brand-new Ferrari every year thereafter.
This leaves your co-workers. You know, that group of people you’re forced to spend approximately 40 hours with each week? If you have plans of entering the New Year with a few coins in your coffer, then you’ll need to be as miserly as possible with the gift you purchase for your officemates this holiday season.
While you may want to save a few bucks, you also don’t want to come across as the office cheapskate, which is why the lowly betta fish is the perfect holiday gift. Inexpensive, beautiful, and very relatable (like you and your co-workers in your individual cubicles, the betta knows the loneliness of isolation), plus they require care. After all, what better way is their to impose on co-workers you didn’t want to buy anything for in the first place, than by gifting them the responsibility of life?
If you’re a really nice person, then you can also buy (i.e. spend more money on) a bowl, a little castle, and some pebbles for the fish; however, no gift receiving person actually expects anyone to include those aforementioned items with the betta.
That’s right, not only have you given your co-worker the responsibility of life, you’ve also managed to give a present that requires them to spend their own money on to fully enjoy. And they will spend their own money on the fish, because no one wants to have to admit to you that they killed you’re thoughtful gift within a week of receiving it.
Yes, the betta fish is truly an office holiday gift that keeps on giving.
